Bring thigh up as ball is dropping

Timing is key.  This also means players will only be on one leg for a split-second.

Thigh below parallel to cushion the ball

Drop the leg as the ball is about connect.  Leaving it stiff will see the ball bounce back up in the air, giving opponents more time to close down.
